The Coastal Grandmother Summer Wardrobe 2024

I have been promising you my Summer Wardrobe blog for a while now, and finally, here it is! As I told you in my last blog, I had a really bad fall Memorial Day weekend. Most of the trauma was to my face, and it has taken months to heal completely. Fortunately, it was on the right side where my hair is longer, and I was able to hide it better.

There is lots of summer left, and perhaps you still have a vacation planned or maybe a cruise coming up! I will also make suggestions of how to transition your summer wardrobe into fall.

I love these navy and white striped, full legged, Sympli pant. They fit the bill of stripes and nautical trends that are in this season. I have chosen the Sympli navy top to complete the look.

I like tops that come to the elbow for summer. They are more flattering on me, and I am usually cold in air conditioning. I keep my air conditioner at home on 72 degrees in the summer, not for me, but for my little dog, Emmy! That tells you something about my life, right? I could not resist this cute red stripped top as stripes and red are in this season. I am wearing it with white jeans here, but I can also switch it to my white linen pants, add dressy jewelry, and get an entirely different look.

I also added a warm red dress this summer. Yes, I know warm red is technically a “Spring” color. This is an example of how to mix a color that is not technically your “Season” with a color that is your Season next to your face. I loved the style of the dress, and I knew that since it had a small, white polka dot in it, and I planned to wear it with a white jean jacket, I could make it work. Unless you have all your clothes custom made, you generally have to shop for your clothes in a retail store, catalog or online. You will not always find the styles you like in the exact colors for your Season, so you need to know how to put one of your true colors next to your face, and make it work for you.

Another trend for this season is sheer. I chose this Sympli, to the waist, sheer top with a longer tank underneath. It would be flattering on most any figure type and can be worn with white or black narrow legged pants. You can add a black sandal for casual and a small heel or wedge for a dressier look. You could also do a black tank underneath, with black pants and transition into fall. This is the beauty of capsule dressing, you can mix your neutral pieces with trendy pieces and get the perfect look for any season or occasion.

I love black and white, and, as a “Winter, I’m so glad they are neutrals for my “Season”. They are so easy to mix and match and create many different looks. I chose this black and white cotton skirt this season. I pair it with either a white tank top and a light sweater or a white cotton tee. I can add my Eileen Fisher black longer sleeved tee and transition it right into Fall. Again, if you build your wardrobe around the neutrals for your “Season”, you will be able to create many different looks with just your core basics.

I find by having some really simple pieces of jewelry, I can change the look of any outfit. I generally wear silver since it is the metal for my “Season”. I have a basic pair of silver hoop earrings, several silver bangle bracelets and several silver necklaces. I saw this white shell necklace with the black onyx bevel in a boutique at the beach, and I couldn’t resist it. It’s amazing how much I wear it in the summer to just fill in a neckline. The other piece I wear a lot is just a simple silver collar. Many times, it is just the right touch if I need a little dressier look.

One of the most exciting trends for me this summer is trench coats. I knew since they were showing up on the runways in the Spring, there would be lots of styles and colors to choose from. Sure enough, I went to a Sympli trunk show in early May, and they were showing a griege (grey beige) swing style trench coat that I loved. It is so light weight, it could easily be packed for a trip. I had to order it since they did not have my size in stock. I got it in a number of weeks, and can’t wait to wear it.

As I finish up this blog, I am headed to the beach so I need to get busy and pack. I will pretty much only need shorts, tee shirts, and a couple pair of jeans. I always take my linen pants in case I have an occasion to go out to dinner. I sometimes joke that I can go to Home Depot, at the beach, in January or February and see someone in shorts and flip flops. They might add a sweatshirt if it is really cold, but the “summer” vibe is always there. It is one of the many things I love about the beach!

I hope the rest of your summer is fun filled and happy. It will soon be time to think about fall and everything that goes with that season, but let’s milk every minute we can out of the rest of our lazy, hazy days of summer!
